“Every Girl in the Team” is more than just inclusion; it’s a blueprint for empowerment that plays a key role in the Jack & Jill Family of Schools sports curriculum. When every girl is actively involved in the team, it creates a dynamic environment where confidence, camaraderie, and leadership skills naturally flourish. At the Family of Schools, all of the children have an opportunity to take part in regular fixtures; whether it be matches, training sessions, or team meetings. PE lessons and fixtures become a catalyst for confidence, camaraderie, and leadership. They:
· Give girls consistent opportunities to show up, contribute, and improve
· Encourage preparation, punctuality, and goal setting
· Allow for rotating roles (e.g. captain, warm-up leader, strategy planner), giving each girl a chance to lead in her own way
This structure helps the girls see themselves as reliable, capable, and essential to the team’s success.
Confidence and knowledge are not built by watching but are gained from knowing more and doing more. This is the foundation of the JJFOS PE curriculum. We use sports fixtures to further implement the curriculum. The sports fixtures teach the children how to:
· Take initiative and make decisions under pressure
· Apply the skills they have learnt in lessons
· Learn from setbacks and celebrate small wins
· Discover their strengths through hands-on roles like, team captain role, handing out post-game snacks, thanking, and shaking hands with the opposing team and coaches, leading a warm drill,
Camaraderie: “Play up, The Stoics!”
When every girl is valued, the team becomes a safe space. Camaraderie grows through:
· Compliment circles and shared mantras that affirm each girl’s worth
· Collaborative problem-solving and group challenges
· Celebrating each other’s wins—on and off the field
This sense of belonging fosters empathy, trust, and mutual respect—key ingredients for lifelong friendships.
